Dashboard controls

Open Publisher Assistant. Save your changes and reload your site to verify them. If you change a value that is included in the install snippet, copy the updated snippet to your site too.

Branding

Control	What you can change
Assistant Name	The name used by the assistant.
Show Assistant Name	Show or hide the name where the layout displays it.
Show Assistant Label	Show or hide the Publisher Assistant label.
Assistant Logo	Upload or remove your logo.
Header Background / Header Text	Header colors.
Welcome Title / Welcome Description	Welcome copy and its colors, where supported by the layout.
Welcome Alignment	Left or center for layouts that render the welcome block.
Suggestion Layout	Carousel or stacked suggestions.
Suggestions Background / Suggestions Text	Suggestion colors.
Input Placeholder	The text shown in an empty question input.
Input Background / Input Text	Input colors.
Send Button Background / Send Button Text	Button colors; text can be black or white.
Send Button Label	Button text in layouts that display a text label.
Disclaimer Text	The disclaimer below the input.
Meta Text	Color for supporting text.
Default Language	English, Spanish, Italian, French, Hindi, or Telugu. Changing it also updates the default widget copy.

Some compact layouts use icons or omit headers and welcome text. A saved control only affects elements that the selected layout renders.

Visibility and answers

Control	What you can change
Enabled / Disabled	Turn the assistant on or off.
Enable Ads	Enable or disable sponsored recommendations.
Countries	Allow selected countries; an empty selection allows all countries.
Device Targeting	All devices, desktop, or mobile.
Show Assistant on Specific Pages	Enable path-based visibility rules.
Show On	Allowed paths, one per line. Leave blank to allow all paths unless excluded. Use `/articles/*` for a section.
Do Not Show On	Excluded paths, one per line. Exclusions take priority over Show On.
Retrieval Source	Use Content Index or Search API for publisher content.
Public Information Access	Publisher-only answers or publisher plus public information.
Bring your own model	Configure the provider, model ID, and credentials using the dashboard’s model settings.

Content connections

Content Indexing	Website URL, scheduled refresh, refresh interval, maximum pages per run, and indexing actions.
Search API	Search endpoint, HTTP method, authentication, timeout, and request template.
MCP Tools (Advanced)	Server URL, authentication, timeout, and tool usage mode.

Script controls

Add these optional data-* attributes to the script you copied from Deployment. For settings supported in both places, explicit script values override the saved dashboard setting. Omit an override to use the saved value or the default below.

Suggestions and sponsored creative

With input, suggestions open when the collapsed input receives focus, even when empty. Readers can use arrow keys and Enter to select, or Escape and outside clicks to dismiss. The dropdown can flip sides if there is insufficient space. Dropdown settings apply only to the collapsed input. The expanded assistant keeps its visible follow-up suggestions and does not open an input dropdown. Minimizing restores the configured dropdown behavior. The extra sponsored creative requires data-suggestion-trigger="always", ads enabled, and an eligible sponsored recommendation. It appears below the input in a noncompact collapsed page or floating assistant. It does not appear in input-focus mode, compact ad slots, or the expanded assistant. none only turns off this extra card; sponsored suggestions can still appear. Apply is a demo button, not a script attribute.

Placement and size

`data-size`	`sm`, `md`, `lg`, `xl`	`md`; actual dimensions also depend on layout and viewport.
`data-width`	Positive pixel value, such as `360`	Optional width override.
`data-height`	Positive pixel value, such as `420`	Optional height override.
`data-surface`	`page`, `ad-slot`	Page by default; inline embeds inside an iframe use ad-slot.

To move an inline assistant, move its container in your site’s HTML. The script’s position in the document does not determine where the assistant appears.

Header and welcome text

Use true or false for visibility attributes.

Page context

Attribute	Values / use
`data-article-url`	The article URL to use for context, especially when embedding inside an ad iframe.
`data-context-mode`	`auto`, `page`, or `ad-slot`. Defaults to `ad-slot` for ad-slot surfaces and `auto` otherwise.

`data-slot-type`	A preset from the table below. Setting it also selects the ad-slot surface unless a surface is explicitly provided.
`data-behavior`	`expand` opens an overlay when active; `sticky` keeps the assistant inside the slot. Default: `expand`.

Preset dimensions take priority over data-width and data-height. On mobile, leaderboard switches to mobile-leaderboard; half-page, large-rectangle, skyscraper, and billboard switch to medium-rectangle. Leaderboard and mobile-leaderboard always use expand. Short slots omit some header, input, or welcome elements to fit the available space. For older snippets, data-ad-slot="true" and data-ad-server="true" are aliases for the ad-slot surface. data-publisher-id is a fallback identifier; data-agent-display-id takes priority when both are provided. Keep the identifier from your dashboard snippet.
